Left Hand Drive text/musik Robert Wachsmann

G C

When we used to travel on the Irish mainland

G D

we hoped there would be too much rain

G C

for the terrible masses of „sunfried chickens"

G D G

on the beaches of Italy and Spain.

G C

So like many years before we’d carried our packs

G D

when the invasion came

G C

along with thousands of stinking cars and caravans

G D G

and with aeroplanes.

Ref.

em D

We never would believe it, we never would believe it,

C G F em

we never would believe it, it won’t get on our brains

D

oh Lord do release a holy flood

C D G

let it rain, let it rain and rain.

And when we tried to hitchhike in this crazy rush of traffic

from Bantry to Tralee

there was no time to pick us up for those people who hurry

around Ireland in only one week.

Sadly we looked at those parts of the country

where we’d known almost all cliffs and rocks

now the scenery being spoiled by lots of sea-view-cottages

with „No Trespassing" around each concrete box.

Ref: We never would believe it........

Sometimes we feel that even the ocean

is rebelling in foams

against all that distruction even at the loneliest places

which were never to be our homes.

Pray for a ceaseless storm that no caravans get over

eastward we will roam

‘cause we shall never follow these masses of people

and watch the ruin

of a country once almost‘d become our home.
